Home Expansion
Coastal Single-Family Residence
Project Information
Date: February, 2002
Location: Harpswell, Maine
Facility: 2-Bedroom House
Design Flow: 180 Gallons per Day
Wastewater Type: Residential
This year-round waterfront home in the beautiful island town of Harpswell
was plagued with septic problems stemming from its 30-year-old
undersized wastewater disposal system. With shallow depths
to bedrock, sensitive shellfish beds, and a nearby water supply
well the installation of a conventional septic tank system was
not an option.
Installing the Tanks
An OxyPro 1000 wastewater treatment system was installed to continuously
clean the septic tank effluent to an extremely high degree before
the water was released into a disposal field. This treated
water poses a much lower risk to the environment than normal septic
tank effluent because of the natural aerobic process employed by
the OxyPro.
By electing to install an OxyPro 1000 advanced wastewater treatment
system, the owner of this property made an environmentally responsible
decision while increasing the usefulness and value of his property.
